Taj and Parko Advance to Round 3 of the Hurley Pro
Day 1 of the Hurley Pro at Lower Trestles was greeted with 2 - 3 foot waves, a ridiculously thick fog and a frothing crowd. Every year a lot of talk and hype goes into the Trestles event, it is the most rippable wave on tour and the boys are excited to show some contest flair. Round 1 lived up to the expectations, providing exciting heat after exciting heat. From lofty airs to powerful carves, all the moves were on display.
As for our boys, Taj Burrow and Joel Parkinson, we reckon they were just stoked to surf uncrowded Trestles. Taj surfed a calculated heat in the 2nd heat of the day, earning a 14.47 heat total and a ticket straight into Round 3. Parko had a tougher time in Round 1 and found himself up against local wildcard Ian Crane in the losers' Round 2. Fortunate for Parko, the waves were much better in Round 2 and he promptly found himself some proper canvases, amassing a heat total north of 16 points and a victory. If you didn't remember, Parko was subject to Round 2 last year when he surfed against Connor Coffin to keep his Trestles hopes alive; he escaped that heat and made the final, are we bound to see more?
